CHILDREN

In special collaboration with international childcare institutions in Cascais I offer support to young children who might:

  • be going through a difficult period

  • need support to adapt

  • have difficulties in their social environment

  • have developmental issues

  • feel uneasy in a learning environment

  • be experiencing difficulties at home for example with siblings

  • have learning problems

Whatever the cause of the difficulty the importance is to deal with the problem as it present itself - to focus on the situation -

to talk it through and to understand what is going on - once this gets clarified a treatment plan can be put into place -

I have worked in a psychiatric hospital treating young children with severe mental disturbances - now I mostly work with normal children who - for different reasons are experiencing difficulties they need help to resolve -

Adapting to a new environment

Any move is a move toward the unknown – adapting to a new social environment can be a difficult experience for a young child – sometimes children encounter challenges they can handle in stride – but sometimes they can be surprised and feel overwhelmed – sometimes children push themselves to the limit – and sometimes beyond - these problems can become overwhelming – the sooner one starts to deal with them – the sooner one can assess what is going on and identify what measures should be taken -

Any child who is learning how to grow up, learning how to cope may go through a period of adjustment where psychological support can be helpful -

It is recommended to have a professional psychologist help identify the problem – provide support – to stabilize the situation and accompany the child throughout this period -

Asperger & Autistic Children

I also work with asperger & autistic children –

Therapy is a dignified way of reaching these children – its focus is complete respect for the integrety of each child -

Children with Asperger's Syndrome make contact differently from other children - support and understanding are essential - delicate techniques are needed to enable these children to develop -

When working with autistic children it is also very important to know how to reach out to the child – to help them emerge into the world -

If you would like to contact me to talk about a problem you have observed concerning your child, please feel free to give me a call and together we can have an informal talk -
